Poverty Reduction and Climate Risk - Report Series
Climate change is already happening, and will inevitably continue for many decades to come. Moreover, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has stated that climate change will hit hardest in developing countries and that, within these countries, the poor are the most vulnerable. As such, worries have been expressed that climate change could seriously hamper the global efforts to reduce poverty and threatens the sustainability of the MDGs.
One of the key question is, therefore, how the changing climate risks can be factored into development efforts.
In this context, the Directorate General for International Cooperation of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commissioned the Netherlands Climate Assistance Programme (NCAP) to prepare a report series on the risk of climate change for poverty reduction. Three studies have been carried out in Bolivia, Bangladesh and Ethiopia to identify where climate change and climate related disasters present the greatest risk to development investment. The findings of these studies have summarized in four reports which can be downloaded below.
